Completing the Orientation Course

As you begin to work on this self-study course, you may already have a lot of knowledge and experience. Some of the ideas may be familiar to you and you may already be using them when you are with children. The course will give you an opportunity to recognize what you are doing well and also to think about aspects of your work or relationships with children that you might take for granted.

It will be important as you go into the course to be open to new ideas. We become more competent, more professional caregivers by continually adding to what we know and can do. Take the time to try out new ideas and suggested practices in your work with children.

Completing the 18 Sessions

To successfully complete the Orientation course, you must show that you have met the learning objectives for each of the 18 Sessions. You will do this by completing the session exercises, assignments and passing the online test at the end of each Session. Your instructor will review your work to assess whether or not you understand the material for each session. The instructional team will provide feedback by Instructor Comments for assignments that require further information regarding your understanding of the course content. You may wish to email the Instructor Email (available on the Contact Us page) for further clarification regarding a concept, skill, or assignment.

You will not receive credit for a session until each component has been reviewed by a member of the Instructional Team. If you don't understand the material, review the video and written resources. Session tests become available once your assignments have been marked as complete.

You must also score 60% or higher on the test at the end of each Session. Each test consists of 10 multiple choice questions.

Compliance with the Time Limit

The online Orientation Course must be completed within twenty-five (25) weeks of the start date. This start date begins when access to the course is granted. Your first four sessions must be completed within 5 weeks from your official start date. If you are unable to complete the course within the time limit you will be required to re-register, with a new email address, and start the course again.

When a delay is due to circumstances beyond your control, you may request an extension of up to one month. As soon as you are aware of this need, you must request an extension, via email to instructor@childcare.basecorp.com. Individual requests will be reviewed and if permitted the extension an email will be sent to confirm the extension.
